About the role:
Ngāti Porou Oranga are looking for an experienced and passionate Registered Nurse / Mataora to join our team on the beautiful Gisborne & East Coast.
This is a Full time Fixed-Term role providing early intervention psychosocial wellbeing support for tamariki across education settings (ECE, Kōhanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa Māori, Kura ā Iwi, Area Schools and mainstream schools), working in partnership with whānau and community providers to strengthen mental wellbeing and resilience.
This role provides culturally grounded, evidence-informed early intervention psychosocial support to tamariki across Tairāwhiti education settings.
Strengthening tamariki wellbeing through individual, group and whole-of-class interventions, working in partnership with whānau, schools and community providers.
This position integrates Mātauranga Māori approaches, including Mahi a Atua principles, and operates within a collaborative care model alongside ICAMHS and other health and education partners to ensure safe, seamless and whānau-centered pathways of care.

Essential Qualifications
· Registered Health Professional (e.g. Social Worker, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse, Counsellor or equivalent).
· Current Annual Practising Certificate.
· Relevant tertiary qualification in health, social services or psychology.
Physical Requirement
· Able to kneel, to get 1 knee up on bed
· Able to squat
· Able to raise arms above head, reach out in front
· Able to walk up two flights of stairs without stopping
· Able to do a minimum of 3 half press up (i.e. on knees)
Desirable
· Ability to embrace new learnings and share current & existing pukenga (skills, expertise)
· Post graduate qualification in relevant field.
· Mataora Graduate of Te Kurahuna.
· Te Reo Māori proficiency.
Skills/Knowledge / Experience
Essential
· Minimum 3 years’ experience in child/youth mental health or community wellbeing.
· Proven work history in health, educator, or social services field of at least 3-years is essential.
· Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori health equity.
· Demonstrated ability to apply Te Ao Māori paradigms in practice.
· Experience working with Tamariki and whānau in community settings.
· Ability to work independently across rural environments.
· Full NZ Driver Licence.
· Competent IT skills. Proficient computing skills.
· Commitment to a smoke-free and drug-free workplace.
· A proven professional competence in either of the above industries
· Strong professional community networks
· Strong Ngati Porou connections within whanau and hapu
· Experienced in Tikanga and Kawa when visiting whanau homes
· Experience in development of new systems
· Has ability to analyse and present findings of work studies
· Excellent Oral and written communication skills
· A team player with self-motivation and initiative
· High level of organisational skills
· Able to establish a good rapport with people
