Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are looking for x2 casual Kaimahi Residence based at Te Whare Awhina Residence located in Gisborne. As a Kaimahi Residence, you will play a vital part in supporting and empowering young people and their families as part of Ngati Porou Oranga's commitment to community services and child welfare.
What you'll be doing
- Providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for rangatahi in residential care
- Assisting with the daily routines and activities to promote the wellbeing and development of rangatahi
- Engaging with rangatahi and their families to understand their needs and provide appropriate support
- Collaborating with social workers, counsellors, and other professionals to develop and implement individualised care plans
- Maintaining detailed records and documentation to ensure high-quality care and compliance with regulations
- Participating in training and professional development to continuously improve your skills and knowledge

- Relevant experience in a similar role or a background in community services, youth work, or social care

Qualifications and technical skills:
- A clean, Full NZ current driver’s license is essential
- Level 3, Health and Wellbeing Qualification or relevant experience in care service
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent observation skills
- Behaviour management and conflict resolution skills
- Calm and professional manner, with the ability to maintain performance under stress
- Positive role modelling, and being consistent and confident in behaviour
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns in particular knowledge of tikanga Māori
and Pacific peoples ‘culture
- Consents to undertake VCA Vetting
- Current First Aid Certificate
Experience:
- Experience working with Rangatahi
- Previous experience in social services working or other relevant experience
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner
- Empathetic and non-judgmental
- Engages effectively with family/whanau to ensure participation in decision making
Operational Competencies
- Physically fit or physically capable
- Passion for working with Rangatahi
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced and deadline driven environment
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately to bad behaviour
