Te Aronui O Tāwhiri

Te Aronui oTāwhiri - Whānau Resilience

Te Aronui a Tāwhiri is a whānau resilience programme, supporting whānau experiencing family harm through a kaupapa grounded in Te Ao Māori and Mana Motuhake. Named after the moment when a waka sails in harmony with the wind, the programme symbolises the collective strength achieved when whānau and services move together toward healing and wellbeing. Guided by the whakataukī “Ka Mua, Ka Muri”, walking backwards into the future, Te Aronui a Tāwhiri honours the past to create pathways for sustainable change.

It acknowledges the deep impact of intergenerational trauma, particularly on Mana Wairua, the spiritual, emotional, and mental wellbeing of tamariki, rangatahi, and wider whānau.

Through personalised wānanga-a-whānau, kaiārahi offer intensive, mana-enhancing support tailored to each whānau’s needs, including advocacy, mental health access, cultural reconnection, housing, and financial stability. The programme empowers whānau to lead their own transformation by reclaiming cultural identity, restoring relationships, and building resilience from within.
