Health Care Assistant – Te Puia Springs Hospital

Ngāti Porou Oranga is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Health Care Assistant to join our team at Te Puia Springs Hospital in a casual capacity. We are looking for an individual who is committed to our vision of "Te whakapumau i te mana motuhake o Ngati Porou mo nga uri whakatipu"—achieving self-determination and control over our destiny for future generations.

About the role

The Health Care Assistant plays a pivotal role in providing essential support and assistance to patients and whānau within the Case Mix Ward. You will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional, patient-centred care that ensures the overall well-being and comfort of those in your care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and eating while preserving their dignity and privacy.
  • Providing emotional support and companionship to patients and fostering a positive, caring atmosphere.
  • Adhering to strict infection control protocols and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
  • Recording patient observations and reporting significant changes in condition.
  • Supporting healthcare professionals during medical procedures and examinations.
  • Advocating for patients' needs and preferences throughout their care journey.

Essential skills & experience

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a high level of professionalism and empathy. We are looking for candidates who possess:

  •     Previous experience in a health care or caregiving setting.
  •     Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize with patients.
  •     Understanding of infection control principles and adherence to safety protocols.
  •     Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move patients.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Completed secondary education (high school or equivalent).
  • Desirable: Relevant certification or training as a Health Care Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or equivalent.
  • Desirable: A current First Aid certificate (training can be offered to the right candidate)
