Whānau recently gathered at Ngāti Porou Oranga – Youth Services (Paikea) for the Tūpuna Parenting / Parenting Fabulously programme — an initiative centred on strengthening parenting through the guidance of tūpuna wisdom and tikanga Māori.
Guest speaker Bronwyn Williams, who delivers the Te Whainga o te Ao Tikanga course at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (Whirikoka), led an engaging session exploring the foundations of tikanga — what it is, why it exists, and how it continues to guide our everyday lives and parenting practices.
Through interactive discussions and information sessions, whānau also learned about a range of support services available to help strengthen their parenting journey, including:
• Parenting Programme — Tūhono Whānau
• Childcare / Teen School — Te Whare Whai Hua Unit
• Te Whainga o te Ao Tikanga — Bronwyn Williams
• Youth Plans & Obligations — Bub
The programme created a welcoming and supportive space for parents and caregivers to connect, reflect, and gain practical knowledge that supports the wellbeing of their whānau.
Ngāti Porou Oranga remains committed to delivering programmes that empower parents, strengthen cultural identity, and help build strong futures for our tamariki and rangatahi.
