Ngāti Porou Oranga (NPO) has announced the appointment of Gilbert Taurua as Interim CEO for a six-month period, effective Monday 25 May 2026.
Gilbert Taurua (Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Ngāti Pāmoana; Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kāwa) brings more than 35 years of leadership experience across health, social services, and Whānau Ora. He is widely respected for his commitment to Māori-led solutions, equity, and collaborative leadership that supports strong outcomes for whānau and communities.
Throughout his career, Gilbert has worked extensively across the hauora sector, leading organisational development, service improvement, and community-focused initiatives that strengthen long-term wellbeing outcomes.
As Interim CEO, Gilbert will work closely alongside kaimahi, managers, and partners to support Ngāti Porou Oranga as it continues to strengthen services, systems, and future planning aligned to the aspirations of Ngāti Porou whānau and Nati2050.
Board Chairperson Na Raihania said the Board is confident Gilbert’s experience, leadership, and values-driven approach will provide strong guidance and support during this period.
Henare Walker will continue in the role of Interim CEO for the wider Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou Group and will also provide interim advisory support to the NPO Board to ensure continuity across the wider group.
