Cancer Care Kaiawhina

Ngāti Porou Oranga is building a small, dedicated team to stand alongside whānau living with cancer — walking with them from diagnosis through treatment, recovery, and beyond.

This kaupapa is about more than clinical care. It’s about restoring hope, protecting mana, and ensuring every whānau on the Coast can access the support they deserve, close to home and grounded in te Ao Māori.

Working alongside the Cancer Care Clinical Coordinator (RN) and wider health team, the Kaiawhina plays a vital role in improving access to prevention, screening, diagnosis, tyreatment, and survivorship support for Māori whānau.

As part of our Cancer Care Coordination Service, you’ll work across marae, homes, and clinics to make a real difference for whānau who face some of the hardest health journeys. Our approach blends clinical expertise, cultural strength, and community connection — guided always by Ngāti Porou values of manaaki, tika, pono, aroha, and ringa raupa.

This is a Full-Time role primarily based on the East Coast from Potikirua to Whangara.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are deeply committed to whānau ora and kaupapa Māori practice.
  • Understand the challenges and beauty of working rurally, from Pōtaka to Whāngārā.
  • Bring compassion, patience, and resilience to every interaction.
  • Are ready to listen, learn, and lead within a close-knit, whānau-focused team.

This mahi isn’t easy — but it’s profoundly meaningful. You’ll be part of a movement to close the cancer equity gap for Māori, transforming the experience of care for our people and their future generations.

If you carry a heart for service, cultural grounding, and the drive to uplift whānau through cancer care — we’d love to hear from you.
