Are you passionate about uplifting rangatahi, strengthening cultural identity, and growing the next generation of Ngāti Porou leaders? We are seeking a Kairaranga Rangatahi Wānanga Lead to design, deliver, and coordinate the Whāia Te Pae Tawhiti – Rangatahi Leadership Journey.

About the role:

In this role, you will create inspiring, mana-enhancing spaces where rangatahi can grow, connect, and step confidently into their leadership potential—grounded in our Reo, Tikanga, and Ngāti Porou cultural practice. Your work will uphold our shared commitment to Mana Motuhake, whānau transformation, and kaupapa Māori approaches centred in whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and puāwaitanga.

This is a Fixed Term Full-Time Role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver high-quality leadership wānanga
  • Recruit and engage rangatahi through kura, whānau, and community networks
  • Apply tikanga, kawa, and Ngāti Porou cultural practice
  • Facilitate learning, mentoring, and pastoral support
  • Manage logistics, planning, budgets, and reporting
  • Build strong relationships with kura, hapū, iwi, and partners
  • Ensure health, safety, and risk management
  • Contribute to ongoing training and development
  • Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako – What we’re looking for

    • Essential:
      • Whānau Ora Diploma (or willingness to undertake training)
      • Youth Work / Mentoring qualification
      • Full, clean driver licence
      • Strong IT and reporting skills
      Desirable:
      • Experience with iwi and community networks in Tairāwhiti
      • Advocacy or community development background
